Directions for use:Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.
Note:TMP-BISyltrimethoprim (Trimethoprim DS) is a prescription-only antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Dosage:The recommended dose for most patients is 1 gram twice daily for pneumonia, 3 grams twice daily for strep throat, and 0.5 grams twice daily for urinary tract infections. It may be increased to 2 grams every 6 to 8 hours as needed. If there is no improvement after 8 to 12 hours, the dose should be re-started on the 24th to 48th of July. If the patient does not complete the full course of treatment, the dose may be increased to 4 grams every 12 hours for children. For children, only the initial dose should be taken; the total dose should be maintained for at least 8 weeks after stopping treatment. Discontinue treatment if the patient presents with new symptoms. The course may be continued for 4 weeks after stopping treatment, if the patient has not improved with the previous course of therapy, or for another 4 weeks if the patient has presented with new symptoms. Continue treatment for the full course of therapy, even if symptoms improve. Discontinue treatment if the patient is pregnant or nursing, or if the patient has a history of allergies or drug-induced infections. Discontinue treatment if the patient has not improved with previous treatment, or for another 4 weeks if the patient has presented with new symptoms. Use of this medication may result in the following side effects: headache; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; constipation; stomach pain; dizziness; dizziness/trouble sleeping; abnormal vaginal bleeding; blood disorder (e.g., aseptic meningitis, endometrial, blood disorder, hemolytic disease); blood disorder (e.g., anemia, proteinuria, proteinhemolytic disease); abnormal vaginal bleeding; blood disorder (e.g., aplastic anemia, myelosuppression); aplastic anemia (a disorder resulting from an inherited condition); anaphylaxis; anemia (anemia due to anaphylaxis); anemia due to anaphylaxis (anemia due to anaphylactic reaction); anemia of effect; bone marrow suppression (anemia due to a disorder resulting from a tumor, leukemia, myelosuppression); theophylline, methocarbamol, or nalidixic acid. The patient should not use this medication. Discontinue if the following signs or symptoms do not improve: severe diarrhea, dizziness, abdominal pain, or stomach pain. Discontinue if the following symptoms worsen: severe vomiting, nausea, vomiting, headache, difficulty breathing, dark colored urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
